I had the pleasure of connecting with Representative Wheatley while I was hosting the Murray Chamber’s legislative breakfast digital event. At the tail end, Rep. Wheatley mentioned a bill he was running on trying to improve community engagement with police. I immediately thought back to my conversation with Lieutenant Fernandez and thought this would be a great connection to make.
Representative Wheatley’s Community and Police Relations Commission, HB 283, looks like a great tool to accomplish some of the meeting of minds and finding of common ground that needs to happen to strengthen the bond between police and the communities they protect. I’m hopeful it will be signed in to law.
